Most construction and real estate owners can tell me their bank balance without blinking. Ask them their real number and the room gets quiet.

Here's what I mean. Your bank balance is what's sitting in the account today. Your real number, what I call your zero, is what's actually yours once every job cost, every payable, every dollar you owe is accounted for. Most owners are running their business off the first number. That's how a company can look profitable on paper and still feel like it's drowning during payroll week.

Here's what that looks like in real life. I saw this recently with a real estate investment founder. Their company was growing fast, but they were still operating like a startup. No real financial infrastructure. They tried staffing companies. They even tried hiring a full time W2 CFO. Both were expensive, and both were temporary fixes. What they actually needed was a financial leader embedded in the business, not a patch. Once we got in and helped them find their real number, they stopped guessing and started making decisions with actual confidence.

Once you Know Your Zero, the decisions get easier. You know what you can actually take on. You know what a bad month costs you before it happens. You stop finding out about a cash problem the week it becomes one.

That's what this newsletter is for. Every other week I'll break down one real number, one real mistake, or one real fix I'm seeing in construction and real estate businesses doing $1 million to $25 million in revenue. No fluff, no generic finance advice. Just the stuff that actually moves the needle on your bank account.

If you're running one of these businesses and you've ever been surprised by your own numbers, you're in the right place. Hit subscribe to Know Your Zero and we'll send you the next one.
